My son and daughters school & nursery, The Hall School in Northwood Middlesex, was inspected by Ofsted in November 2009. Out of 11 areas, 10 were deemed outstanding with the last area good. The report was so glowing about every area of the school, better than any report I have seen before and I have worked in education for the past 10 years. The current head teacher, who has turned this school around in just 18 months since taking over, absolutely puts it down to the small class sizes that she insisits upon and therefore the incredible amount of 1 to 1 attention that children receive. The school has 40 children in total! My son is in a class of 8 children (Year 1) and my daughter is in a pre-school class of 6 with 2 teachers. At 2 years old she already knows all her phonics sounds with the corresponding letters and therefore can read CVC words such as cat, dog, pan etc. Perhaps if the government spent more money on reducing class sizes and less on ICT then we would end up with children who could read and write properly rather than just speed text.
